Why is going Green so important?
It is estimated that the world population will reach over 9 billion by 2050. The world has a fixed amount of natural resources, so as the population grows our resources are pushed to its very limits. If we want the same life, we have enjoyed, for the future generation we must preserve the environment so that our children can benefit from it as we did.
Did you know?
- For every ton of paper that is recycled, you save: 7,000 gallons of water; 380 gallons of oil; and enough electricity to power an average house for six months.
- By recycling one aluminum can, you save enough electricity to run a TV for six hours.
- By recycling one glass bottle, you save enough electricity to power a 100-watt bulb for four hours.
How can you be Green at home?
Please have a look to some of the best ways to go green at home:
- Unplug anything in your house that you are not using. And only run the (dish)washer, and dryer when you have a full load.
- Change standard light bulbs for energy efficient fluorescent bulbs. If everyone in the United States replaced all their standard bulbs for fluorescent bulbs this would be the equivalent of taking 1,000,000 cars off the road.
- Use a low flow shower head.
- Recycle everything you can think of like cans, plastic,(news) paper, magazines, cardboard boxes.
- Properly dispose of all hazardous wastes. This includes oil, paint, cleaners and batteries.
- Always keep your tires inflated; you will save money on fuel and go farther per mile.
- Use cloth napkins during your meals versus paper napkins.
- Research how renewable energy sources, like solar panels or small wind turbines, can help to lower your energy bill.
