Wedding at Manchebo

Click pictures to enlarge images

Richard & Kathy Cavanaugh, from New Jersey, came on their honeymoon to the Manchebo Beach Resort in 1978. They have pictures reminding them of the late 70s experience. The honeymoon snapshots feature Kathy wearing a black cat suit with a plunging neckline. Richard has an open white shirt with pointed collar tips on under his coat, no tie. They had a fabulous time visiting the Bali pier, the natural beach. The island was very different then, they agree. The Cavanaugh's returned in 1988 for their 10th anniversary. Manchebo was again their vacation destination. Monday, they renewed their marriage vows in the beach pavilion, on the eve of their 23rd wedding anniversary. Richard whose health is somewhat delicate didn't want to wait till their 25th anniversary, he wanted to go back to Aruba this year. Reverend Stigter was on hand to perform the ceremony. We are in love, just as the day we met, the Cavanaugh's declared, we are always there for each other. Pictured here is the couple and some of their pictures

Papiamento Lesson 3

Speak Papiamento like a PRO!!

Papiamento is a mixture of Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, English, French, and it also has some Arawak Indian and African influences. Papiamento is one of the few Creole Languages of the Caribbean that has survived to the present day.

The Name Papiamento:
The name "Papiamento" comes from
the word papia which means 'to speak'

Papia is the Papiamento verb for 'to speak' and -mento is the suffix that forms a noun, meaning approximately 'the way of doing something'. Papiamento translated would then be something like 'the way of speaking'.

As promised the Aruba Donkeys are back!!!

These are Aruba WILD DONKEYS  that can be seen in the country side if you have some luck, they were used as a mean of transportation back in 1900.
Most of Arubians back then had to go to town on one of these donkeys.
Now they are no longer needed  they  wander around the island in groups and are harmless.
In 1997 Fundacion Salba Nos Burico (Foundation Save Our Donkeys) was founded to protect the Aruban Donkey and prevent their extinction.
This foundation is  funded by  private donations and fund-raising.
